SDG17 “Partnerships for the goals”

📢 SDG 17 is strictly connected to something we strongly believe: PARTNERSHIPS!

👊🏽 To reach the goals fixed by the UN, everyone needs to take action…private and public sectors have to work hand-by-hand and even more they must help countries that are more in need.

The main goal of SDG 17 is to increase international cooperation and strengthen global partnerships at the governmental level by:

🟡 Strengthen domestic resource mobilization

🟢 Mobilize additional financial resources from multiple sources

🔵 Attain long-term debt sustainability through coordinated policies aimed at fostering debt financing.

SDG8 “Decent work and economic growth”

📢 Our journey through the SDGs is still going on and today we will recap what we discussed on the last quiz: SDG 8!

👉🏽 Economy is the fuel for countries’ growth but it has to respect population and environment needs. That is why we talk about “Sustainable Economic Growth”. For being sustainable, “it must be accompanied by eco-efficiency improvements, climate action and resilient measures, alongside active labour market and social inclusion policies, in order to ensure that the transition to a climate neutral economy is just and inclusive”. *Eurostat

Work is also important for the personal fulfillment of individuals because it gives people money for food, medicine, housing and other things that support health and also a greater sense of security and well-being. 

Last but (absolutely) not least, there are human rights related to work and economic growth, for example: 

🟢Right to work and to just and favorable conditions of work

🔵Ban on slavery, forced labour, and trafficking of persons

🟡Equal rights of women in relation to employment

🟣Ban of child labour

🟠Equal labour rights of migrant workers

🌍The world’s population is growing rapidly and it requires an update on how cities are thought of. We need human settlements more inclusive, safe and adaptable to new types of needs. 

What do we need to better develop the cities of the future?

• Involve all urban residents, slum-dwellers, in planning their own cities
• Design cities that protect the needs of both young and older people
• Put resilience thinking at the heart of city planning
• Pay attention to what vulnerable population groups need
• Share stories of positive action.

SDG7 “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”

Closely connected to the last SDG we discussed, here we are with the new topic: SDG7 “Affordable and clean energy”

💡 Energy is the fuel of the world but are we using it in the best way? Shall we improve?

There is always room for improvement!!!

The lack of access to energy hinders economic and human development. This is the main reason why we need to improve energy usage and give more space to renewables. Nowadays, renewables are cheaper and reliable. Just to give an example, 80 minutes of sunlight can power Earth for one year!*

📋 What can we do in our small way?

• Switch off your appliances at the socket
• Buy rechargeable electronics
• Use solar energy sources
• Don’t use multiple devices at the same time

SDG1 “End poverty in all its forms everywhere” & SDG10 “Reduce inequality within and among countries”

🧐 Let’s discover 2 over 17 SDGs 🧐

Here we are:

• SDG1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere
• SDG10: reduce inequality within and among countries

🔴 Why are they strictly connected? 🔴

Poverty could be considered an inequality and together with others can threaten long- term social and economic development, harm poverty reduction and destroy people’s sense of fulfillment and self-worth. This, in turn, can breed crime, disease and environmental degradation.

💬 Some numbers…

• People who make less than $1.90 are considered to be in “extreme poverty
• South Sudan has the highest poverty rates (82.30%) (in 2022)
• Iceland stands at the top of countries with the lowest poverty rates with a poverty rate of 4.9% 
• 281 Million international migrants (135 million women/146 million men)
• Mainly from five countries: Syrian Arab Republic (6.8 million), Venezuela (5.6 million), Ukraine (5.4 million), Afghanistan (2.8 million) South Sudan (2.4 million)
