NEB Stewardship Lab - developing the role of higher education with the New European Bauhaus
A look at the New European Bauhaus…
The perennial upheaval of social and ecological systems caused by climate change calls for immediate, multilevel actions on local and global scales.
The most propitious context for this transition is the New European Bauhaus (NEB) European initiative: an interdisciplinary bridge between science and technology, art and culture, it invites everyone to build together a future based on the values of sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics.
... and at the NEB Stewardship Lab.
But the fire of change burns with greater intensity if it is lit by those involved in education and research. And the new NEB Lab project-the NEB Stewardship Lab-puts the focus on promoting higher education as a driver for the transition to a more sustainable society.
Knowledge, expertise, and responsibility: these are the three dimensions on which the Stewardship model rests, for building collective action plans that enhance the capabilities of individuals.
The Promoters
Green Growth Generation is among the main coordinators of the NEB Stewardship Lab, as part of a roundtable that also brings together Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the University of Turin (Italy), IADE – Universidade Europeia (Portugal), NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (Italy), Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) and the Cyprus Institute (Cyprus).
To all institutions of higher education the invitation is to join a movement that responds to the growing demand from students to address the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and air pollution by moving to practical application of the many, too many concepts that have so far remained only on paper.
The first steps have been taken
The Project officially launched on Feb. 7, 2023, in conjunction with the launch of a Call to Action aimed at gathering thoughts, ideas and potential collaborations.
On March 28, the first live meeting was held in Lisbon: the ‘NEB Stewardship Lab Lisbon edition’. A day entirely focused on the role of universities as accelerators of sustainable transition. Through various workshops, participants-researchers, professors and students-shared reflections and concrete action plans on the NEB Stewardship Lab Program Goals.
‘Knowledge, agency, and care’: the May 10 online workshop subsequently delved into the practical application of the three pillars of the Stewardship model, contextualizing them to the European Commission’s new NEB guidance.
